So far, I have done the following for the new company:
-wrote a game story
-came up with some core game mechanics
-made a small prototype of some game mechanics in Unity
-recruited a 3D artist, concept artist, designer, marketing person, and a programmer
-wrote company policies
-began game design discussions with the designer
I've also started to read 4 books on game business development: Game Production Handbook, Business and Legal Primer for Game Development, The Game Localization Handbook, and Team Leadership in the Game Industry.
I still haven't decided for sure what the company or the first game will be called.
Cool! Looking forward to playing it. :)
ReplyDeleteI've recently been playing more (older) RPGs, by the way:
Disciples II
Sacred Gold
The stories seem to be an excuse for the gameplay, but they're still fun. Disciples has an excellent battle system with lots of options: almost chess-like, and Sacred Gold is all about exploring an enormous world.
I have a very basic prototype of the game here: www.ezimin.com
ReplyDeleteThe link for it is on the bottom right, "Scribe's Descent Prototype"
Dang, can't run it; I don't browse the internet from an OS supported by the Unity web player.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a virtualized windows box at your house?
ReplyDelete'Fraid not. We do have wine (the Linux windows emulator), however; I'd forgotten about that. Maybe with PlayOnLinux I can easily get a browser installed.
ReplyDeletePlease let me know when you can find a way to run it. Just so you know, hundreds of votes have gone up on the feedback.unity.com website for a linux compatible build of Unity. I'm hoping it makes it into the roadmap soon.
